In the early evening in December 2011, I found myself at a road block with painting. I had taken on my final commissioned paint job, and began to ween myself from hobby article writing so I could focus on my own hobby. But this just did not sit well with me - something was missing.
Then an idea struck me. I should paint to raise money for charity.
The charity itself was an easy choice, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Canada, as diabetes (of both Type-1 and Type-2) is a major issue in my family. It is in the old and the young, the oldest being my grandfather - who also happens to be Ontario's longest living user of insulin. As I got to thinking more about diabetes, I knew that this would be the perfect organization to raise money for, for the disease is still such a prevalent issue in our society.
Now I had the 'who', but I was stuck with the 'how'. After much consideration, I decided that auctioning mini's on eBay simply would not suffice, though that has become my avenue of choice for raising funds. Anyone can paint a mini well and sell it on the internet, but a project like this needed a little more than just a nice paint job. With that in mind I searched out the awareness colours of both Type-1 and Type-2 diabetes, lime green and grey respectively. I now knew what would help set this apart from simple miniature selling. Every mini that will be used will incorporate, to some degree, either one - or both - of these colours (or their variations to fit in the feel of the mini).
Finally having the concept figured out, it came time to get the word out and to set the brush to work. As of now there is no target goal to reach, but this is a personal project that I feel has the chance of doing some real good for cause that affects a lot of the world.
